Welcome to the New Moon in Sagittarius which waned at 1:30 am EST in the 3rd house. Lots of energies power packed into this New Moon conjunction including, of course, the sun, Venus, and Saturn; all intensely unified toward a major life changing goal.
The Moon, representing our emotional feminine nature, including instinct patterns, inner self, dreams, subconscious, in the sign of Sagittarius, the sign of wisdom. Sagittarius is masculine mutable fire. Mutable signs are communicators, and a typical Sagittarian can talk circles around most people. Fire signs burn things with typically a one sided idea of how things are. Fire signs are assertive and inspired; passionate about beliefs and change is difficult. But in these days, change can be necessary in order to survive. I was watching one of my favorite movies this morning, “Eve’s Bayou,” and at the end of the movie where the main character is commenting on her heritage and the events that took place in the past, she says, “truth changes color because of the light,” and I knew that would play an important role in this New Moon ritual. We see the colors that we do because of how light is reflected… in the daylight, the leaves on the tree appear green, but at night devoid of sunlight, you cannot see the green of the trees. Our perceptions change with the light.
The Moon in Sagittarius wants to get back to basics, rediscovering the roots of the foundations of who we are, our very life’s philosophy. Things that we once thought to be true sometimes have to be amended because of other things that we must now face. People that we once thought would always be there, fade into the darkness leaving the tiniest traces that they were ever there. And as we come upon the winter solstice and look to the days ahead, we find we have to let go of some things in order to make room for the new. Sagittarius helps us to see and understand the how and why of it all so that we can put things in perspective and not dwell on things that unhealthy.
At the New Moon, the Sun and the Moon are conjunct, so the energy is intensely unified. The Sun representing our external self, the you that the world sees, your ego and basic character in the sign of Sagittarius is open, frank, and typically gets to the heart of the matter. The Sagittarius Sun is self reliant, always seeking answers, so always finding them.
Venus is the planet of aesthetics, pleasure, and beauty. Venus conjunct the Moon lends for a strong sense of discrimination and kindness, a fondness for tradition, the simple things in life are at the top of the list of what’s important, like the difference between, do I want to be able to walk in this fabulous high heels or do I just need to be able to walk. Also in the 3rd house, Venus is about communication so what we express can be delivered with a sense of diplomacy and charm.
Saturn is the planet of limitations, and with Saturn also being conjunct with the Moon, we can firmly state that all of the above must be done within limits; you cannot give too much information too quickly or people get glassi-eyed. We all absorb information at our own pace, so the subject of light when speaking of illumination and wisdom in the way of Sagittarius, becomes relative. You may hear just one point in all of this that strikes you that was meant for you, and the rest you don’t even hear because that one point hit you because of something in your current circumstances that sheds some light on what you’re going through. Or you may need all of the information in order to make sense of it; the point being, we all have our limit. With the Saturn/Moon conjunction, we get a sense of re-ordering of things be it people, home, job, some restructuring is in order and it’s coming and you intuitively find what that is. With the Moon/Venus conjunction lending it’s sense of diplomacy, Saturn/Moon conjunction adds it’s quick wit so words aren’t wasted…. as in “cast not your pearls before swine.” Get to the point, man!
Uranus, speaking of communication, the planet whose name got changed to urinus in order to not make it sound like one is referring to a hind body part, Uranus is trine this New Moon. The trine is an aspect of benefit. Uranus is the planet of upsets, ingenuity, and originality, where we dance to the beat of different drummers, our rebellious side. In Aries, Uranus is the proverbial pioneer with projects saying change is good, adding a positive note to what could be sad and painful. I have a friend who in the past 3 months has been to 13 funerals. I’m not sure how one would go about putting a positive note on going through that, but he’s still here plugging away, trying to make sense of things, we get startling insights that break us away from those old traditional ideas.
Today in the hebrew is the Rosh Chodesh or New Moon, which is the first of the month, of Tevet. The month of Tevet begins with the ending of Chanukah, the Festival of Lights. Chabad.org says this reminds us of the power of good over evil, but I would choose to see it more by way of love over hatred, because I don’t believe in a person’s goodness or a person’s evil – these are relative terms because everyone has a measure of light and dark, and darkness doesn’t mean bad – it’s all relative. Trying to deny or exorcise one’s dark nature is as impossible as denying one’s sexuality, you can dress it up and fake it for a while, but eventually you have to be who you are. Who you are at your core, your spirit, doesn’t change, but your physical person changes as we age, as does our understanding and wisdom in life. If truth changes color because of the light, maybe so does our sense of perception in other areas of our lives. We often hear that love is blind, and people on the outside often see things quite differently than from the inside. Also, since my perception may be based upon what I “believe” to be true, it therefore has to be true, that it’s only true for me, and that same truth can be different for the next person because their perception is completely different. Now because that changes based upon our experiences, my truth today could be quite different in a year from now, tomorrow even. That being the case, how could we ever be able to judge right or wrong for another person? If I have unconditional love for another, I simply have to make room for that person to be who they are, even if who they are alters from who I thought they were; and if it is that it is time to let that person go because who they have become no longer meshes with who I have become, then growth requires that I love them and myself enough to do that with the grace and charm that this Sagittarius Venus offers. Who knows, perhaps they will grow to a point in their lives where we are on the same plane again, but for now, we must let them be who they are…truth changes color because of the light.
The month of Tevet is Capricorn and because the Sun has not quite moved into the energy of Capricorn for this New Moon, we turn our focus to the Hebrew letter that created the ruling planet, Saturn and the letter Beit. Livekabbalah.org provides:
“If we examine the structure of the letter ב – Bet it has a bottom line which symbolizes the earth. The upper line, symbolizes the sky, and the vertical line connecting them together, symbolizes the connection between the two forces of earth and sky. This connection between earth and sky is where the power of blessings emanates. The letter ב – Bet also faces forward and is closed from behind and that teaches us that if we desire the blessings in our life we should always look forward. ” http://www.livekabbalah.org/index.php/home/gates-in-time/rosh-hodesh/tevet-capricorn/
The letter Beit represents the 12th Path on the Kabbalistic tree of life connecting Kether, the crown with Binah, which is understanding, and the Magus in the Thoth Tarot.
“The True Self is the meaning of the True Will: know Thyself through Thy Way!” DuQuette, Lon Milo. Understanding Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot (p. 99). Red Wheel Weiser. Kindle Edition.
The Magus, according to tradition, is the title of the second highest level of spiritual illumination a human soul can attain, and few of us come close. Kether, the crown, represents the will of God, the will for oneness, discovering the inter-connectedness of all of creation. Binah imparts the energies we need to comprehend ourselves in relation to the all giving us logic, discipline, and education to provide a structure within which to practice discipline.
— Sphere of Kether —
The Sphere of Destination is Kether, the Crown, called Rashith ha- Gilgalim, the beginning of whirling, the Primum Mobile or First Mover, which bestoweth the gift of life in all things and filleth the whole Universe.
The Hebrew Divine Name is Eheieh, the Divine Essence.
The color is white brilliance.
Look at this name of God as a mantra, a key that can open before you the powers and potentials of the sphere. Just like you might need a web address to download a file, so does the name of God connect you to a certain aspect of the one God that can in turn help you access the content you need to connect with.
— Sphere of Binah —
We commence our journey in the Sphere of Binah, called the Sanctifying Intelligence and known as Understanding.
The Hebrew Divine Name is Jehovah Elohim, the Perfection of Creation and the Life of the World to Come.
The color is dark brown or black.
— 12th Path —
The 12th Path is called the Sanctifying Intelligence, the Foundation of Primordial Wisdom, known as the Intelligence of Transparency because it is that species of Magnificence called Chazchazit, which is named the place whence issues the vision of those seeing in apparitions.
It is the Creator of Faith.
The Esoteric Title is The Magus of Power.
The Divine Name is Aloeth Elohim, Goddess of Goddesses, or the Great Mother.
The color is yellow.
The musical note is “E.”
Symbols are the house, the wand and the caduceus.
Living beings are apes, swallows and the ibis.
The mystical experience of the Path is freedom from Karma through choice and will, coming from understanding.
The Path philosophy is that we begin our magical mystical transformation to pure beingness through the exercise of our will with understanding and thereby speed our vibration.
Ultimately we work the highest of magics, the transformation of the self.

Chic Cicero in his book Scrying the Tree of Life writes of the 12th path:
“This path has a great deal to say about the idea of psychic vision. The “Transparency” of the path implies a certain clarity that is needed for true revelation. It is the place of true prophecy or seership. This is not simply the lower psychic reflexes, but rather the pure and clear root of all higher spiritual visions. It is the revelation of the Divine Self as it emerges. From this vantage point, one is able to observe the arcane workings of all dimensions through various methods of psychic awareness and inner sight. The Hebrew letter Beth means “house.” This indicates that the Twelfth Path is one of containment, sanctuary, or a place of “being within.” It is the dwelling place of the divine. Since it connects the pure consciousness in Kether to the maternal subconsciousness in Binah, this path represents the supreme self-consciousness that is the supreme “seer,” which knows and sees all.”
