New Moon in Pisces

New Moon Pisces

Welcome to the New Moon in Pisces which waned at 9:12 AM EST in the 12th house.  The Moon, as we know, represents the female archetype, the emotional nurturing nature of our personalities; our instincts, habit patterns and unconscious drives, and our natural intuitions.  Pisces is feminine mutable water.  Mutable signs are adaptable communicators, the ultimate mediators, and water signs are instinctual. So the Moon’s energies are very much embraced in the sign of Pisces; the “I believe,” of the Zodiac making decisions on gut instincts and feelings, communicating by feelings over logic, but Pisces being mutable can often come off as being indecisive because Pisces is easily swayed to one side or the other, but that’s only because Pisces being perceptive,  can and typically does see all sides of an issue. Lunar Pisces is often said to be out of touch with reality.  Because Pisces is the 12th sign of the zodiac, it’s said that it has a little bit of all of the other signs; hence Pisces see themselves reflected in the behavior of others. With 12th house energies, typically the house of self undoing, we can tiptoe through this transit as it shows us sides of ourselves we may not have been willing to admit was there, but the Pisces Moon is full of love and compassion, so cut yourself some slack even if you discover the worst – it doesn’t have to be a lifetime sentence.

Aspecting this New Moon is the conjunction with the Sun, square with Mars, trine with Jupiter, and sextile with Pluto.

The conjunction is typically very intensely unified, so the basic character highlights and sense of outward identity with the Sun may seem to be as indecisive as our emotional nature, but the air is open for us to figure things out as we’re navigating through this New Moon’s energies; the adaptability of Pisces says it’s ok to be misunderstood, it’s okay to be changeable, and adapt, because as new information comes to light, adapting becomes necessary.  I was watching an old episode of The Tudors the other day, and in this particular episode, Lady Mary, was sent a document by her father, King Henry VIII that denounced her own mother’s marriage to the King and declared her a bastard.  She reluctantly signed it but it effectively restored her to the line of succession, as she eventually became queen following his death.  What good would it have done for her to stand on her honor and refuse to sign the declaration, if it would have meant her death and prevented her from being in a position to restore her mother’s position at a later time. It may have seemed that she flip-flopped on a crucial point to her faith, but I think her ministers correctly advised her to sign now, and live, change later.

The Sun in Pisces is very future oriented, just as Mary would have been at the time, sacrificing her own self interest for the sake of a higher vision.

The square occurs when planets are at 90 degrees from each other and is considered an aspect of tension in order to create stress to promote action.  New hermetics teaches that each day you should take at least one step forward toward your ultimate goals so that you let the universe know you’re serious.  Mars is the planet of assertiveness and aggression; it is physical vitality and will power.  Sometimes too harsh or forceful when dealing with others and can often cause one to tear through things to get things accomplished.  In Sagittarius, Mars is direct and unapologetic and may want this Pisces Moon to hurry up and settle on a side of an issue, but don’t be pushed along too quickly.

The trine occurs when planets are at 120 degrees and is considered an aspect of ease and comfort allowing for development and fine tuning.  Jupiter is the planet of good luck and expansion.  It’s energies allow us the ability to grasp principles, and charts our optimism.  Scorpio is the sign of extremes, and the trine with this New Moon brings assistance in whatever area we are in need with animal like instincts which will help this New Moon navigate through her seemingly instability so she lands on the side that’s best for her.

And lastly but never least is the sextile with Pluto, and even though it’s a sextile which is generally a positive flow of energy, we are talking about Pluto here where anything can and does happen – because Pluto is the planet that gives you what you need whether you’re ready or not, sometimes kicking and screaming.  But Pluto here is in the sign of practical Capricorn giving Pluto great sense for organization, so things fall where they are at their best.

The North node is still in Leo so the energies are self serving for the purpose of introspection and how we can best help ourselves, just as the decision with Princess Mary.

Today in the Hebrew is the Rosh Chodesh or New Moon of the month of Nissan.  On the first of the month of Nissan, according to tradition, the Jews left Egypt. It is also the month of Pesach, which causes me some concern; if the first of the month commemorates the people leaving Egypt, but the plague of the death of the first born doesn’t occur until Pesach, does that mean that it took an entire year following the last plague for the people to be released, if you believe in the letter of the story? Now using that metaphorically speaking, real change can take time, we get distracted, stumble, hit road blocks, etc., and even sometimes lose interest, but we know it’s not supposed to be about the destination, but the journey to get there, which could explain wandering around the desert for 40 years.   According to, the secret in the name of “Nissan,” is the hebrew word “nas,” which means to flee or escape, inferring the ability to flee to a new and higher place that “will liberate us from our past chains, old habits and behaviors.”  The Passover lamb represents the ego which is roasted on the fire of good and positive work.  Matsa symbolizes the reduction of the ego, as the leavened bread represents the bloated ego, and Maror, the bitter herb symbolizes the planet Mars since it’s taste is as bitter as wars and death, and when eaten, it is with the intention of overcoming wars, arguments, and death.  From a physical standpoint, fighting assumes a certain amount of stress which we know has a detrimental affect upon the body and our overall mental health.  This Pisces Moon has the ability to look at the situation, see it for what it is, and yet take a step back and see all sides of the issue at hand, as well, helping us to gain proper perspective so that the “battle” isn’t as inevitable as it may have seemed at first.  We become our own mediator.  I had a situation earlier this week when I was walking my dogs, and there’s a guy down the street that has a very lively Akita that barks at us at the fence.  My boy is very sensitive, and sometimes it takes him a minute to settle down and be able to ignore the dog barking at us behind the fence. Well the owner apparently took issue to my stopping there, because he felt like I was purposely tormenting his dog.  I tried to explain that I was simply trying to let my dogs know that the other dog was not a threat, and at the same time, convey the same message to his dog, but he didn’t appreciate my answer and I keep hearing in my mind, don’t engage crazy…so I won’t go that way to keep the peace.  But as I thought about it through the course of the day, I came to the conclusion that perhaps his neighbors are giving him shit about his dog barking which could explain him seeming so unreasonable to me, and I’ve been in that situation where I actually lost my dog because he howled at sirens and we lived near a fire station, so I had to try and place myself in his shoes and look at it from his viewpoint, and if I didn’t understand the psychology of dogs, I guess I would think I was tormenting the dog too.  So this New Moon in Pisces’ energy has been very strong this entire week.

Since the Sun hasn’t yet moved into the energies of Nissan (Aries), we focus upon the Hebrew letter which created the ruling planet, which is Mars and the letter Dalet.  The dalet represents the door that stands in the opening of the house, the beit.  It is likened to the poor man who receives charity from the rich man, the gimel, and the sphere of Malkuth, the lowest sephere on the Tree of Life that depends upon all 9 of the other sephiroth for all of it’s light.

“The basic meaning of the letter  is “door,” but has several other meanings associated with it. It can mean “a back and forth movement” as one goes back and forth through the tent through the door. It can mean “dangle” as the tent door dangled down from a roof pole of the tent. It can also mean weak or poor as one who dangles the head down. “

The letter Dalet, although being likened to the lowliest sphere, represents the 14th path which is the connecting path between Binah (understanding) and Chokmah (wisdom) in the upper triad on the Tree of Life.

The sphere of Chokmah symbolizes the mirror in which God’s oneness reflects itself back through the process of meditation, reflection, intuition and insights.  Binah helps us to understand self, our identity and mission in life and is relate to the planet Saturn in your chart and the process of fixing the soul.

The 14th Path and the letter Dalet are represented by the Empress card in the Thoth Tarot

“Crowley! At least we can say this— Daleth means door, and woman is the door of heaven when we are conceived, and the door of life and when we are born.” DuQuette, Lon Milo. Understanding Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot (p. 104). Red Wheel Weiser. Kindle Edition.

She represents the element of salt, the inactive principle of nature which must be activated by sulfur (Emperor) to maintain the whirling equilibrium of the Universe.
