The Moon, representing our emotional nature, our inner selves, dreams, subconscious, the past, our home, fears, desires, loves and needs sits in the sign of Aquarius. Aquarius is masculine fixed air… It is the “I know” of the zodiac. Aquarius is free, original, and independent, friendship, rebellious for rebellion’s sake. In the 11th house, the Moon explores our friendships, hopes, and wishes, but further how we deal with groups of peoples. Aquarius is all about 11th house energies, but the Moon adding her moodiness into the mix and those friendships can be tested, if the Moon falls in a stressful area in your chart.
At the New Moon, the Sun and the Moon are Conjunct, sitting on the same degree or very close, in the same sign and same house… they are partnered, aligned in unison toward the same goal, but not always taking the same direction to get there. Since the sun represents our basic character, our outer identity and conscious personality, we can identify ourselves through the kinds of friendships we have; are we supportive of other’s dreams, are our friends supportive of our dreams, are we the voice of reason or the voice of doubt, do we encourage the people around us to be better. The Sun and the Moon conjunct is a position of intensity and issues that come up around the new moon can be earth shattering.
The square is formed when two planets are 90 degrees apart. Mars is square this New Moon. Mars is the planet of physical vitality, our assertiveness, desire nature and our ego. It is our will to do, to carry out daunting tasks, if need be, and with the sun and the moon feeling rather rebellious, Mars is the energy force behind how that rebellion takes place in the physical realm, it is our sense of determination. Scorpio is feminine fixed water, it is stability to the extreme and with Scorpio’s all or nothing attitude, Mar’s will to move you may seem relentless, and with the Scorpio Mars in the 8th house, it rules our ability to utilize the possessions of others for our own ends, but it can also focus on the influence other’s people’s values have on you, but that in itself fuels the rebellion.
The sextile is formed when two planets are 60 degrees apart and is considered beneficial. Both Saturn and Uranus are sextile this New Moon, although Saturn is in Sagittarius in the 9th house and Uranus is in Aries in the 1st house, so 60 degrees apart from the Moon, but in opposite directions.
Saturn represents our sense of limitations, responsibilities and structures in life. Sagittarius is the sign of wisdom, energetic, generous, free, and open to challenges and new ideas. Sagittarius offers Saturn something it isn’t used to so the energies of Sagittarius can neutralize Saturn’s delicate sensibilities. Uranus represents change, upsets, uniqueness, unconventionality and independence. In the sign of Aries, it is all about action and if it’s rebellion the Moon wants, hell yeah, let’s do this. Aries is the god of war, and welcomes the conflict.
So as I’m going through this information, what keeps coming to mind is my grandson, jr, who is truly his father’s son.. who having this great sense of justice, will get himself in trouble to stick up for a friend, and his father is exactly the same. And speaking of our friends mirroring who we are back to ourselves, I pause to think, am I that kind of person…. would I go the extra mile to help out a friend to my own detriment?
Today in the Hebrew calendar is Rosh Chodesh, or new moon for the month of Adar. The secret of the month of Adar is the end is wedged in the beginning. This brings to mind something that’s been on my mind for a while now…and I posted this on facebook…
“If you are not true to yourself..is it G-d or the universe that smacks you around to get you back on the right path, or is it something in your subconscious that brings about lessons to help your understanding…or maybe they are all one and the same and you can never really escape the plan you set for yourself.”
In other words…we hear that when we are true to our path and our nature, all is well in the world but when we are not, all hell breaks loose…now, I don’t spend my entire days studying, I probably don’t even study as much as I think I should, but I can say, that my days are better when I’m doing what I think I should be doing, and I feel guilty when I don’t, and I think that guilt is enough to wrek some of the havoc that I’ve seen… but the structure, the quest for knowledge is I think self inflicted…No one set the tone for me… no one said, you must learn this… you see, but now that you’ve asked for it… you can’t not learn.. you can’t not seek anymore… it’s like if you could look at the lesson plan you made for yourself, you might understand better what you’re supposed to do, or how but wait… we did… because we have our natal charts, and in some form or fashion, the answers are there. Each new moon, each full moon, each transit you experience in your own unique way because of your own unique path. The only hand directing your life, or pulling the strings to your future is you.. predestiny is an illusion because it’s not predestined if it’s the life you wrote and chose for yourself.
In a leap year, we have Adar twice. The letter for the month of Adar is the kuf….kufa means monkey which is quite a coincidence because today marks the Chinese New Year into the year of the Monkey, and 2016 is the year of the fire monkey. Adar is the month of Purim traditionally celebrated by a masquerade. Inner.org provides that “by initially hiding one’s true identity, pretenting to be someone else, the innermost essence of one’s true self becomes revealed.” But at the new moon, because the sun hasn’t yet reached the energies, we turn our focus to the letter that created the ruling planet for the month of Adar, which is the planet Jupiter and the letter Gimel.
The letter Gimel is about giving/receiving, the giving of charity or the giving of punishment. It is said that reward and punishment have the same ultimate aim; rectification of the soul to merit to receive God’s Light to the fullest extent. So in the example I gave, punishment leads to the same effect as reward… if I fail to study the results lead me to study more and if I study more, that also leads me to study more. When you have a child that seeks attention, you notice that it often doesn’t matter whether the attention they get is good or bad because that’s relative… the effect is still the same… they crave attention and if they don’t get it for good and they get it for being bad..that reinforces the bad behaviour, which Kabbalah says is all the same. Maimonides placed great stress upon freedom of choice, and reward and punishment imply that man is free to choose between so called good and evil, but the question is… when was the choice made; as you’re going through the present or was the choice already made before you entered this physical existence. Remember there was a study that was done that said based upon the choices that you have made thus far… it could be determined what choices you will make in any number of given situations because we’ve already exhibited a pattern of how we reason and make decisions.
One of my new favorite rabbis which I found watching Ancient Aliens… Rav Ariel Bar Tzadok wrote..
“Kabbalah means “receiving.” If I give you a piece of bread, and you receive it, is this a revelation? Or maybe, I gave it to you because you asked for it. Like the Talmud says, the mother cow wishes to nurse more than does the calf… in order to receive, one must first have an outstretched, empty hand, and then ask, “please sir, may I have some more.” Is this revelation, or the acquisition of knowledge (which unites Hokhma and Binah)?”
Now for this New Moon, the planet Jupiter is actually what is called inconjunct with the sun and the Moon which means the planets are 5 zodiac signs or 150 degrees apart which create a natural conflict and can be either creative or destructive. Creatively the inconjunct creates restlessness and discontent, destructively can mean frustration like hitting a brick wall and not being able to move it. Jupiter, the planet of expansion, sits in the sign of Virgo, the sign of work, ruling communication and commerce, reason. So for the Moon in the sign of Aquarius being all about friends and rebellion, Jupiter wants to expand our career or work focus. Remember the quote from Rav Tzadok…”maybe I gave it to you because you asked for it.” Maybe the conflicts we feel are because of what we planned for ourselves to learn. The free spirited Aquarian doesn’t necessarily live destitute because there’s a time and place for all things, a time to give and a time to receive, a time to be fun loving and maybe even flaky, if that’s what suits you at the time, and a time to get down to business.
“Give up all questions except one: ‘Who am I?’ After all, the only fact you are sure of is that you are. The ‘I am’ is certain. The ‘I am this’ is not. Struggle to find out what you are in reality.”
According to “Chinesefortunecalendar.com” the year of the monkey relates to metal which connects to gold…relating that we will deal with more financial events in the year of the Monkey but metal is also connected to the wind and the status of events will change very quickly… so it will be necessary to outsmart the monkey.
Chen Shuaifu, a noted feng shui master says, while financially, the world view is bleak, it’s a good year for people to give birth and look for love…children born during this year are hardworking and lucky. Susan Levitt says we should avoid monkey mind going from branch to branch grabbing at a banana, taking a bite and dropping it… finish what you start and consider carefully what you start-don’t over analyze, but use your good common sense.
I would make note, however that monkeys are self policing.
I remember some years ago, I read a study on behaviour conditioning where a bunch of bananas were placed on a stump and when a monkey would go near the bananas, they turned the hose on them, thus conditioning them that bananas brought pain. After a sufficient number of monkeys had gone through this process, they then started attacking other monkeys that would attempt to go near the bananas… so even though eating the bananas were a part of their nature, they were actively conditioned to believe bananas were bad… just as much of society teaches us things that go against our nature.
The letter gimel represents the 13th Path and the High priestess in the Thoth Tarot, representing the more subtle aspect of the female archetype, mystery, psychic power, and the power of the moon to shine it’s light on the subconscious. In Lon Milo Duquette’s expose on the Thoth Tarot, since we’ve had this card many times before, I thought it important to note, the figures at the bottom… the camel, which is representative of the letter gimel, and the other objects, the crystals and seeds are “suggestive of the hidden and mysterious secrets of the beginning of life,” just as Kether is life imagined and tiphareth is the beginning of physical manifestation.
“Purity is to live only to the Highest; and the Highest is All; be thou as Artemis to Pan! Read thou in The Book of the Law, and break through the veil of the Virgin.! ”
The 13th path goes straight down the middle pillar from Kether, which is the crown to Tiphareth which is beauty, which we’ve learned over past moon festivals really relates to our sense of charity and giving… the beauty in the heart being how the heart cares for others.
Sphere of tiphareth Is assigned to the sun as the solar body is both of the heart of the tree and the center of the solar system.
There is said to be a veil between the lower spheres and tiphareth called the veil of paroketh. It is the veil of allusion and in a sense it is not really there. It is what separates fire from spirit two elements that have much in common yet are different. Spirit is the entry point into the macrocosm while fire is still part of the fourfold system of the microcosm. The lesson of tiphareth is known as understanding the nature of sacrifice. The true nature of sacrifice is a sacrifice of self not in the body but in spirit to spirit is the sacrifice of the personal self to the higher self to a body are divine self more fully.
Kether is said to be beyond all astrological associations. If Chokmah is the fixed and form stars then kether is the forming stars the wellspring of light that has not yet taken fixed shape. Ketter is sphere of divine will. Those who are aligned with their divine will have everything they need. Everything is at their disposal as long as they don’t become attached and desire ownership of it.
For anyone who is interested in doing a greater work with the individuals for years I would recommend Christopher penczak’s book, Temple of high witchcraft.
