Welcome to the New Moon in Gemini which waned at 2:40 eastern standard time this afternoon.
The Moon, the planet that rules our emotional selves, that which we need for our emotional security, the receptor of the sun’s energy, and our feminine side, although that’s not necessarily tied to our emotions. The moon is also where we feel a sense of protectiveness or parental instincts. In the sign of Gemini, adaptable, communicative, logical… the dual energies, the dual columns, the twins and the lovers/brothers.
In the 9th house, where we search for meaning in our lives, where we explore what our beliefs really are whether we were born into them or not. The 9th house would show whether you’re typically a person that just takes things at face value, or whether you dig and question each and every step of your spiritual development. Gemini is mutable air, ruled by the planet Mercury, the color yellow and the agate Mutable signs are flexible and versatile. They adapt and adjust.
Air enlivens the intellect and enhances sociability.
The conjunction with the sun is a place of unity. The sun representing our sense of self, how the world perceives who we are, but not necessarily who we are on the inside, with some of us that’s a side we’re often trained to keep hidden from the world around us. The sun is where we develop our true abilities. A positively positioned sun in your chart could be an indication that you walk a higher path of self-realization. In Gemini, our sense of identity is changeble, we can adjust and adapt to new information expanding our spirituality outside the box.
Mars, our impulsive will to act, our tunnel vision, our desire to conquer…Mars acts in order to get what Venus desires… where Venus attracts the desire, Mars desires to conquer symbolizing the centrifugal force, currently sits in the sign of Libra, intellect, creativity and social. She gives Mars a false sense of accomplishment, so Mars may be frustrated here and in the 2nd house of material possessions, those things that we want may seem to slip out sit just beyond our grasp.
Neptune, I think ever since I started studying charts, has been one of my favorite planets and has been one of the greater influences in my life once I got passed being driven by all those 8 house planets. Neptune’s placement in your chart is important to your creativity, your imagination and dreams. If you have ever taken an image, an initial idea, a vision, and gone through the process of making that vision come to fruition, the initial idea is Neptune energy. It is your muse. Neptune sits square to the sun in Pisces in the 6th house, representing a sense of conflict. Neptune is comfortable in dreamy romantic Pisces, but in the 6th house, he’s very much aware of how we are perceived by others which could be the source of the tension with the Sun’s sense of identity.
Today in the Hebrew calendar should be the Rosh Chodesh of the month of Sivan. I wrote to an chassidic rabbi about this issue and this was his response…
“There is much written on this topic. In principle, our calendar is calculated, not measured. I.e., it is calculated based on astronomical constants, which of course results in an average date for the new moon, not the actual date of the new moon as can be observed. Halachically, we are obligated by the calculated new moon, not by the observable.”
Now, I’m not making any judgments but one rule seems to contradict the other and as they follow their path, I have to follow mine. As a pagan, to honor the new and full moon, and kabbalistically as the zohar makes no distinction between the actual or the calculated new moon, the calculated moon seems kinda silly and inappropriate. That being said, today is the Rosh Chodesh of the month of Sivan.
Sivan is the third of the twelve months of the Jewish calendar. It is the month in which the Torah says God descended on Mt. Sinai and gave the Torah to the Jewish people.
Symbolically, we are often born into a belief system within our family, even people who have no specific religious practice, is of itself, a belief system, and as we grow, it’s either that we learn to develop our own sense of spirituality, or we obediently remain where we were born. I was watching an episode of Miami Ink the other day, and there was a young girl who wanted an inverted pentacle with a goats head… claiming she was raised catholic but was now into satanism and I wondered if she would have believed there was any such thing as satanism were it not for her catholic upbringing that teaches the absolutes between jesus the good and satan the evil.
In the exodus story, I remember in the movie, with Charlon Heston and Edward G. Robinson, when Moses goes up to the mountain and Edward G Robinson convinces the people to build a golden calf to worship… known as the sin of the golden calf.
Now El is also an acronym for Enlil, the brother of Enki who was later depicted as the serpent that wanted man to have the knowledge of the gods… Enlil did not.. so as the story goes, it would be symbolic that the exodus to be the finding of one’s freedom, and as the people thought their savior Moses had abandoned them, they reverted to the golden calf, the god they knew… even if it was one of oppression and sometimes we are like that ourselves… rather than step into the unknown, we often prefer to stay where we are, where we are used to, pardon the phrase, but the devil we know.
Now it was supposed to be Aaron that the people asked to make the golden calf, Aaron was of the first lineage of the kohen gadol… the lineage of high priests. Priesthood was often passed down through generations, as was royal lineage… which brings us to the Card the Lovers, also known as the brothers, the unseen forces of the power of Gemini…
The previous letter, vav, portrays the or yashar (“straight light”) descending from God into the worlds. The zayin, whose form is similar to a vav, though with a crown on top, reflects the or yashar of the vav as or chozer (“returning light”). Or chozer ascends with such great force that it reaches a higher state of consciousness than that of the revealed origin-point of the or yashar.
Though Sivan is itself the third month of the year, the letter associated with it in Sefer Yitzirah (the letter by which God created the month of Sivan in time) is the letter zayin (ז ), whose numerical value is 7. Both numbers, 3 (the 3rd month) and 7, (the value of the zayin) are referred to by the sages as “beloved
Venus and Mars – on a higher level Sun and Moon – as the combination of the contrasts
Tree of life: From Binah to Tiphareth
Number: 6 as combinantion of contrasts and their mutual penetration
The Lovers are one of the most complex cards in the Major Arcana, standing for the love in common and the alchemy of the universe. The trump represents the power of life, the creative love, which can be quite impressive, but also destructive when one happens to disregard the fire of instinct, burning down rationalism.
The card also represents a decision, the farewell to a former way of life and the full acceptance of love uncompromising. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the ‘love’ is a person that you tie your knots to with fancy tungsten wedding bands – it can be a passion, a desire, or even a profession, like going to sea or working with horses. Many people who lead an adapted, settled life actually have deep desires and hidden wishes, that they don’t dare show, that they constantly fight back, surpressing their own happiness.
The secrecy observed by the alchemists was made necessary by the power of persecuting churches. Bitterly as bigots fought among themselves, they were all equally concerned to destroy the infant science, which, as they instinctively recognized, would put an end to the ignorance and faith in which their power and wealth depended.
There are many stories /parables of brothers, one of the most notorious was of Cain and Abel and Isaac and Ishmael… stories of jealousy and betrayal, but the older story of the Gods of the Enuma Elish, Enki and Enlil were just as dramatic as Enlil being the first born and entrusted with ruling and Enki being the favored because of his talents and capacity for great love.
This card is the Solve in the equation solve et coagula… it is the creation story telling the tale of eve and of Lilith, the seed of adam and the seed of the serpent.
Today is under the watchful eye of the Knight of Swords and the 8 of swords, the card of Interference- giving us the suggestion that sometimes we stand in our own way.
the decision to stay within the realm of what is our safety net, maybe over our sense of duty, or life, in reality… stepping off the path of safety into the realm of the unknown letting that trail take us where it will.
The Lovers card is the path 17 that between Tipareth and Binah…
